The Italian American Club of Canal Walk (IACC) participates as a sanctioned club of the association.
The principal purpose of the IACC is to preserve, foster and promote Italian American values. To that end we offer annual scholarships to seniors at several local high schools. This is accomplished through the payment of dues, various social and recreational activities and other fund raising events offered to our members and when deemed appropriate to the Canal Walk community.
All are welcome, come join in the fun and help contribute to the success of our IACC endeavors. We meet the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom.
If you enjoy participating in a highly active club, the IACC is for you. Our activities are too numerous to mention, but here is a sampling of some of our previous events and activities:
- West Point Military Academy, various museums and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx
- Jitney trips and hot dog tours around the tri-state area
- Fine dining restaurants and local wineries
- Botanical Gardens, Longwood Gardens, river cruises and nostalgic train excursions
We also host Bingo nights, a July Fourth picnic, a San Gennaro feast, a Christmas dinner dance, Kentucky Derby Night and performancesby professional artists.
In our charitable efforts, we support both the Manville Food Bank and the Franklin Food Bank. In that effort we also adopt two needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We make sure the adopted families have a true Thanksgiving dinner and a Merry Christmas holiday.
Our club mission is carried out principally through the awarding of scholarships each year to local high school seniorsof Italian descent who are committed to a 2 or 4year college. Since its inception, the IACC has awarded tens of thousands of dollars to deserving seniors. Our awards are graciously accepted by the outstanding seniors at “an evening with students” in our clubhouse where we get to meet, greet, and present their checks. In most cases their parents attend as well.
Our monthly meetings have proven to be extremely popular and fun with typically over 100 members in attendance. What with Mike’s jokes and our general presentation, the attendance has grown exponentially from year to year.Flyers for upcoming trips, events and activities are introduced at meetings to give those in attendance an opportunity to participate first.
Below are some pictures of previous events. As you can see, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
